Pre-owned and preserved in excellent condition, this rare Audemars Piguet ‘Philosophique’ wristwatch, crafted in 18k rose and white gold, dates to circa 1982 - an era defined by both disruption and creative reinvention in Swiss horology.

Its white dial is elegantly restrained, featuring applied gold baton hour markers. Between each marker, three finely painted black indices denote the quarter hours - an intentional design choice for a watch that does away with the minute hand entirely. The single hour hand offers only an approximation of time, inviting a more philosophical, less exacting relationship with its passage.

Introduced in 1982, the ‘Philosophique’ stands as a quietly radical response to the Quartz Crisis - a moment when traditional watchmakers turned toward avant-garde design to reaffirm the emotional and artistic value of mechanical timekeeping. Its case echoes the form of a pocket watch, complete with a bow at 12 o’clock, while the winding mechanism is discreetly concealed within a recessed channel on the caseback.

The 31mm case is primarily rendered in 18k rose gold, accented with 18k white gold detailing. It is paired with a black leather strap signed by Audemars Piguet and secured by a classic 18k rose gold pin buckle bearing the ‘AP’ signature.
